We will to understand how the body has been included in the sociological inquiry as a critical reflective response to the current social changes. By emphasising on the transformations in medical knowledge, we will analyse how the understanding of the body has changed from a passive receptacle of disease to a responsible and active agent of self-care. Moreover, we will examine the knowledge of the body vis-a-vis social competence.
