Some LOVE this mod, some HATE this mod. Basically, if you're curious and are very interested in the birth of the universe, the origin of galaxies, the evolution of stars and the formation of planets etc., you'll very likely find this mod manageable.

  2. Course Name: Astronomony - Stars, Galaxies and Cosmology
    Course Code: EE8086
Elective Type: Ger Pe - STS or UE
Assessment: Mid term - MCQs 30%, Finals - MCQs 70%

Comment: Aries, Scorpion, Sun, Milky way and many more. When you are young, you are fascinated by the stars, zodiac astrology and universe. This course will teach you all this. You will learn how to see the Orion belt, how the earth move, how the sun move and etc.

Verdict: The content is very heavy.I don't understand a single thing from the course. However i am someone who is very good at memorizing stuff and thus i managed to score for this course. I borrowed the textbook from the library and i studied the content every night after the lecture. I spent approximately 1 hour a week to revise this module. I managed to get a A in the end.

  4. Course: EE8086 Astronomy
    Grading: 2 Midterms 25MCQ (20% x 2), 1 Finals 50MCQ (60%)
    Type: GERPE-STS or UE
    Closed book, no calculator needed.
No tutorials, 1x 3hour lecture every week.

Took this in AY2018/2019 sem 1. I'm from HASS but didn't find the concepts too hard to grasp, so it's not for science students only. The problem I had was with the content: it's super heavy. Unless you are very hardworking and willing to put in consistent effort I will not recommend this mod. I found myself struggling to adsorb so much content every week while dealing with my other more important core mods. The appeal of this mod is that it's MCQ only, but that also means the bell curve it super steep.

Both profs are pretty terrible at teaching so I will not recommend going to the lecture or watching the webcast. Instead, watch Crash Course Astronomy on Youtube and refer to the lecture notes. I wish I knew this from the start.

Another thing is that question banks are not included, so be prepared to get from seniors or buy from Carousell. The questions are rarely repeated, but the extra practice really helps alot.

Also my last gripe that many others did not mention: Only Midterm 1 results will be given. So you will not know your results until the semseter is over. I felt a little bitter as if I had known how I did in Midterm 2, I might have S/U it. My overall grade was a B- (which is bad), and I might have S/U it if I had a better idea of my standing. So you have to go into finals only knowning 20% of your overall grades, and I felt pretty confident of my finals so I decided not to S/U.

Don't be foolish and take this mod just because it is popular and only MCQ and that it's "an easy A". It is a mod that rewards geniune hard work and effort.
